Their albums Whistle and Sing and Good Morning, Good Night have both received critical acclaim. Whistle and Sing was awarded the 2013 Barre Times- Argus/Rutland Herald “Traditional Album of the Year” award. Fiddle, Irish flute, whistles, accordion, cittern, piano, guitar, and voices combine to create a lively mix of traditional music for all ears.

The Blackbirds are following the advancing sun! It's been a cold winter here in Vermont. We are very busy warming up this month with concerts in White River, Chester, Brandon, Woodstock and with our Wind that Shakes the Barley bandmates in Bellows Falls!!!
Our CD "Whistle & Sing" has been honored with the Tammie Award for 2013 Best Traditional Album! The Times Argus-Rutland Herald Tammie Awards are given for Best Instrumental, Best Country, Best Traditional, Best Rock, Best Songwriter and Special Awards. We are very pleased to receive this award, and to be included among this fine group of Vermont musicians. We extend our thanks to Art Edelstein for his support!
Our new CD "Whistle & Sing" is here!!!! YEAH!
We are so excited! Hear our favorite traditional and homegrown tunes and songs!
Looks to be a very busy summer for these Blackbirds! Amongst our performances, look for us at summer farmers' markets in Waitsfield, Rutland and Norwich. We'll also be on stage at the Music Box in Craftsbury, Vermont and at the Northwoods Stewardship Center in East Charleston, Vermont, and visiting Hartland, Vermont. At this VERY moment we are well into recording our newest CD and are hoping to have it ready by July!!!
On St. Patrick's eve Blackbird joined forces with Eugene Friesen and Emerald Rae at the Old Stone Church in Bellows Falls, VT for a concert entitled "Fiddle Frenzy!!!" We are not sure we've seen SO many people at church in a very long time! It was a true honor for us to be invited to play with these two astounding musicians. Eugene is a multi grammy winning cellist for his work with the Paul Winter Consort and a Professor at Berklee College of Music. He has broken new ground for the cello in a wide variety of non classical settings. And Emerald Rae is National Scots fiddle champion currently living in Gloucester Mass and a graduate of the Berklee College of Music. This was certainly the most spontaneous concert we have ever performed, literally mixing and arranging our music just hours before showtime! The concert to everyone's delight was an amazing and fantastic success, and just a whole lot of fun!
Emerald, Eugene, Rachel, Bob
And on St. Patricks Day the Blackbirds flew to New Hampshire for our third holiday celebration at The Canoe Club. This wonderful pub and restaurant is in the heart of Hanover. We are pretty much regulars here, so check the Canoe Club's web site calendar for our next appearance!
'Oh my Blackbird', it's 2013 already! Where HAS the time flown? We'll the truth is we've been been busy rustling our feathers. Let's see now, we are spreading our wings and gearing up for a full fledged "adult content" Blackbird CD. That should be good news for you adults who are still secretly listening to "Good Morning Good Night" our children's CD! And after taking a little break last fall, we are back regularly performing at the Canoe Club in Hanover, NH. Actually we'll be there next on St. Patrick's eve. And not so long ago we were on stage at the Tinmouth Firehouse entertaining all those fireman...just kidding, but a fine audience indeed and we had SUCH a lovely time. Coming up we are excited to be performing as part of the Stone Church Arts music series at the Stone Church in Bellows Falls, Vermont on March 16th. And we have lots of good things to look forward to including our performance at the Music Box up in East Craftsbury, Vermont over the summer. Should be a fine time in northern Vermont. So keep your eyes towards the skies and keep a look out for those Blackbirds!
Blackbird has spent this mild winter season busily recording new material. And we've been out and about performing at the Canoe Club in Hanover, NH. Don Lenz of Wind that Shakes the Barley joined us there for a fine St. Pat's concert to welcome in the spring! Afterwards we shared some stouts, took in a country rock band and enjoyed a walk through the unseasonably warm night's air.
"Good Morning, Good Night", Blackbird's children's CD collection is now finished and released!!! Look for it here soon on this very Web site!!!!! It is a wonderful collection of traditional, Celtic and homegrown music especially arranged for children but also suitable for adult listening as well!!! Blackbird is joined by long time musician friends Don Lenz, Steve Brittain and Joe Riekert. The music is arranged to get you up dancing and then later when the day is done, settle you down for a good night's rest!!!! We are VERY excited about this collection of some our favorite tunes and songs!!!!
The Blackbirds have been very busy this winter and are very close to releasing their children's collection!!!!!! and their first full CD!!! Stay "tuned"!!!!! HA!!!!

A full CD is in the works as well a long called for collection of children's music!!! You'll find links to our other bands Wind that Shakes the Barley and Skellig on our Links Page!!! I smell fall apples!!!
Following a slew of Blackbird gigs, the duo has found it necessary to make it's presence known on the Web. Blackbird is available for concert, ambiance, weddings, parties, celebrations of all kinds!!!!
We hiked with our band mates, families and friends to Vermont's towering Camel's Hump mountain. 4085 feet above sea level!!! The problem is there was no sea level to be seen. So we came down and we are still looking for it!
